Don’t neglect your physical or mental health while running a small businessmotivated as an independent lawyer

Starting a small business is tough but, if you are willing to do the work and not give up, it can be done. You need to have the right attitude and dream big. You need to set goals and figure out how you are going to achieve them.

Here are some more tips on how to run a successful small business and solo law firm:

  • Be sure to find time (and ways) to relax. As a lawyer, you might be thinking about your business a lot. You will probably have trouble putting down your work and relaxing. However, it is important to take time every day to relax and unwind.
  • Take care of your health. The same goes for your health. You can’t run a business if you are not feeling well. Be sure to eat right, exercise and get enough sleep so you have enough energy to devote to your business.
  • Find ways to stay motivated. There are going to be days when you just don’t want to work. There are going to be days (and weeks) when you want to just give up and quit. However, you will need to find ways to stay motivated. It might help to remember why you started your business in the first place, and it can help to talk through things with mentors and legal peers. No matter what it takes, you are going to have to dig in when you hit hard times.

Starting a successful independent law practice is tough work, but taking care of your physical and mental health can help you maintain your motivation. Staying connected with fellow entrepreneurs and inspiring people can also help: Others have been through these feelings as well, and they can help motivate you through the difficult times.
