On April 21, 2021, LawBank hosted a lunchtime program to educate their solo and small law firm community about Thomson Reuters’ offerings and how to use those resources to support and market a law firm. The program featured representatives from Thomson Reuters so attorneys could learn how to improve their chances of getting on to the Super Lawyers list and discuss how to use Westlaw and other resources to address busines goals. Presenters from Thomson Reuters included Stacy Woodward, Senior Associate Publisher from Super Lawyers, and Barie Feuer, Senior Law Firm Consultant from Westlaw. Super Lawyers is a resource that provides rankings of selected lawyers and helps clients find rated attorneys in their location. Westlaw is an online legal research service and database for lawyers and legal professionals.

Stacy began the presentation by explaining her role at Super Lawyers and how she assists attorneys. Stacy helps lawyers understand how they can make the Super Lawyers list, explains the process, advises them how to market their recognition once they have been selected and is available to answer any questions they may have. Stacy then explained the selection process for making Super Lawyers or Rising Stars lists. She shared that the 4-step process is a research-driven, peer-influenced, patented process. The four steps of the process include: Nominations, Independent Research Across 12 Categories, Evaluation, and Final Selections. Of the nominated lawyers, 5% are selected to the Super Lawyers list, while 2.5% are selected to the Rising Stars list. Stacy conducted a brief tutorial on how to update attorney profiles and urged participants to update their information regularly. Finally, she concluded her presentation by sharing tips on how lawyers can promote their selection to Super Lawyers or Rising Stars, including upgrading to a premium profile and downloading badges.

Barie’s presentation centered on the new Westlaw Edge program. Edge offers unrivaled research features powered by AI. Barie walked participants through the features of Edge, which include: Exclusive New Warnings for Invalid or Questionable Law, Sophisticated Document Analysis, Next-Generation Search, Integrated Litigation Analytics, and a new tool for Analyzing Statutory and Regulatory Changes. Barie provided participants with a brief program demo of the unique features of Westlaw Edge. For participants who were interested in gaining access to the Edge program, Barie discussed the exclusive discounting that LawBank members receive.
