LawToolBox Shares “How to Leverage Office 365” in Presentation Hosted by LawBank
Carol-Lynn Grow, Owner & VP of Marketing & Sales at LawToolBox, presented to the LawBank audience of independent lawyers on April 22, 2020. Her webinar provided an overview for the LawBank community of the Microsoft Office 365 offerings and how they can be used for small law firms running remotely in the COVID-19 crisis.
Lawyers Working Remotely During the COVID-19 Pandemic
While some law firms and attorneys were already set up to be able to work remotely before the pandemic, many were forced into a virtual environment with little infrastructure or time to respond. Whether they were ready or not, continuing to serve the needs of their clients demanded such a move.
This presentation centered around one of the technology tools that can be utilized to help this process run smoothly, specifically the Microsoft Office 365 platform. This program allows attorneys and other team members to stay close and interact in a secure environment to keep cases moving forward. Keep in mind that there are different versions of Office 365 as on April 21, 2020, Microsoft renamed their products (for example, Office 365 ProPlus is known generally now as Microsoft 365 Apps), added more features, and changed their price structure. It will be important for small law firms to know which version they are operating on to take full advantage of any new offerings.
When it comes to lawyers working remotely, Carol-Lynn explained the benefits of using Microsoft Teams as this app has been incorporated into every version of 365. Teams is a collaboration tool that is beneficial for small law firms. Teams features:
- A web conference system (video, voice, recording options)
- A telephone calling system (voice and recording options)
- A document uploading system (secure and private document sharing abilities)
Teams meetings are now allowing an unlimited number of people to join. If you have an enterprise license for this program, you can access a free version of Teams for six months. For small law firms, Teams provides an added level of privacy and security in videoconferencing as compared to other video communication products.
How LawToolBox Utilizes Microsoft 365
Recognizing law firms’ needs for additional features, LawToolBox has extended the abilities of Microsoft 365. In her webinar, Carol-Lynn shared how her innovative software integrates to bring many law firm providers into one platform. Lawyers that use the LawToolBox software can manage aspects of their law practice including calendaring, deadline management, legal research options, and billing.
Attendees of the program learned that in 2013, Microsoft Office 365 made their integrations available for law firms by connecting to legal software. With these programs, solo practitioners and small law firms can organize conversations, documents, and their calendar and contacts. Through Teams, matters can be created with a single login and can be managed through LawToolBox. The LawToolBox software also helps with generating deadlines while keeping documents and communications secure and protected on this platform.
